Russia strikes Ukraine's energy grid, forcing winter power cuts
Original: Russia launches massive strikes on Ukraine’s energy grid, forcing power cuts ahead of winter
Russia has carried out a large wave of strikes targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, knocking out power for many areas and forcing emergency blackouts as winter approaches. The attacks continue Russia's campaign against Ukraine's power grid, which has repeatedly disrupted heating and electricity supply during previous winters. Ukrainian authorities are expected to impose scheduled outages while crews work to restore damaged facilities.
Why now: A major new attack on Ukraine's power supply ahead of winter has direct humanitarian and security implications.
