Swiss glaciers suffer 'disastrous' year of ice loss
Original: Swiss glaciers suffer 'disastrous' year of ice loss https:// beehaw.org/post/28759238
Switzerland's glaciers have lost an exceptionally large amount of ice over the past year, with researchers describing the melt as disastrous. The losses continue a pattern of accelerating glacier retreat in the Alps driven by rising temperatures and repeated hot, dry summers, raising concern over water supplies and alpine landscapes.
Why now: Reports of record glacier melt highlight growing alarm over climate change impacts in the Alps.
