Yankees eliminate Red Sox after rough sixth inning
Original: Rough 6th inning sends Red Sox to Wild Card Series loss to rivals https://www. mlb.com/news/red-sox-lose-to-y ankees-al-
The Boston Red Sox were eliminated by the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card Series after a costly sixth inning unraveled their chances. Willson Contreras had briefly revived Boston's hopes with a solo home run to right-center, but the bullpen could not hold, and the Yankees closed out the series in New York. The loss ends Boston's postseason run at the hands of their oldest rival, while New York advances in the playoffs.
Why now: The Red Sox and Yankees are fierce rivals, so a playoff elimination in a postseason series draws immediate attention from baseball fans.
