Premier League refereeing panel under scrutiny as critics demand reform
Original: The Premier League KMI panel: Who's on it, how does it work and why isn't it working? https://www. nytimes.com/athletic/
Attention is turning to the Premier League's Key Match Incident (KMI) panel, the body that reviews major refereeing decisions each week. The panel is made up of former players, coaches and refereeing representatives who assess controversial calls from matchweek fixtures. Critics, including coverage in The Athletic, argue the panel is 'not fit for purpose' and needs reform, raising fresh questions about accountability and consistency in officiating decisions.
Why now: Ongoing frustration among fans and pundits over inconsistent or controversial VAR and refereeing decisions in the Premier League.
