Newsom orders California agencies to say AI after Trump decree

Original: War of words: Newsom orders California to say AI after Trump’s ‘superintelligence’ decree

California Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered state agencies to use the term 'AI' rather than 'superintelligence', a direct rebuttal of a Trump decree that embraced the latter phrase. The spat is being read as the latest skirmish between Democratic-led states and the White House over control of artificial intelligence policy and messaging.

Why now: Newsom is publicly pushing back against Trump's framing of AI policy, feeding an ongoing state-versus-federal battle over tech regulation.
