Colorado to reduce killing of wolves over livestock attacks
Original: Colorado to pull back on killing wolves involved in livestock attacks as survival concerns rise
Colorado officials say they will scale back the practice of killing wolves involved in livestock attacks, as concerns grow about the survival of the state's reintroduced wolf population. The policy shift reflects the fragile status of the species after reintroduction efforts, and is likely to draw mixed reactions from ranchers, who lose animals to wolf predation, and conservationists who back wolf recovery.
Why now: Colorado's wolf reintroduction programme remains highly contested, and any change to how problem wolves are managed affects ranchers and conservationists alike
