A man who was shot in the back by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents has himself been charged with assault, according to a report circulating online. The case is drawing criticism from immigration advocates and commentators, who argue it is unjust for a shooting victim to face criminal charges, and it is fueling ongoing debate over ICE's use of force and accountability.

Why now: The apparent inversion of victim and perpetrator in an ICE shooting has reignited anger over immigration enforcement tactics.
