Cornell University says it will bring in outside lawyers to investigate a 2024 rape claim, a move reported by the New York Times and linked to pressure involving Governor Kathy Hochul. The decision means an independent review rather than an internal one, and it is drawing attention to how the university and state officials have handled the allegation.
Why now: The involvement of New York's governor and questions over Cornell's handling of a serious sexual assault allegation are driving fresh scrutiny.
