Original: Hegseth says 20% of senior military officers will be cut, unveils new AI command

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the Pentagon will cut 20% of its senior military officers, including generals and admirals, as part of a sweeping effort to slim down the top brass. Alongside the reduction, he unveiled the creation of a new command dedicated to artificial intelligence, framing the moves as modernising the US military.

Why now: The announcement combines a major shake-up of military leadership with the launch of an AI command, a significant and contentious defense policy shift.
