The European Commission is considering delaying part of its methane regulation, due to take effect in January, amid political pressure and rising energy prices. The reconsideration follows a push from French President Emmanuel Macron, who urged the Commission to act. Critics see it as a setback for the EU's climate agenda, while supporters cite energy security concerns.

Why now: Rising energy prices and lobbying from France are forcing the EU to reconsider a flagship climate rule just before it takes effect.
