Andy Burnham appeared on BBC Newsnight to discuss the UK's relationship with the EU, prompting criticism from at least one viewer who argued that, beyond some local government, citizens need only their own nation and the United Nations. The same commenter also claimed lower economic growth benefits the environment, provided it is matched by a lower population.

Why now: Burnham's comments on the EU touched on the politically charged topics of sovereignty, international institutions and growth, inviting pushback on social media.
