Original: Top Man City sponsor threatens legal action against Premier League
One of Manchester City's leading commercial sponsors is threatening legal action against the Premier League, according to the Financial Times. The move escalates tensions around the league's rules on associated-party transactions, which have already been challenged by Manchester City and drawn criticism from other clubs with wealthy owners. A sponsor directly confronting the league in court would be an unprecedented escalation in the dispute.
Why now: It signals a major escalation in the ongoing legal and financial conflict between Manchester City's backers and the Premier League.
