Water limits could cap moon's population, scientists say
Original: Video Water limits could cap moon's population, scientists say
Scientists say the availability of water on the Moon could place a hard limit on how many people can live there long term. Because lunar settlements would depend on locally sourced water ice for drinking, oxygen and fuel, scarce supplies may cap the size of future Moon bases, raising questions for agencies and companies planning permanent human presence beyond Earth.
Why now: Space agencies and private companies are actively planning long-term lunar bases, making constraints on Moon habitation newly relevant.
