Ukraine urges US to sanction firms backing Russia's Starlink rival
Original: Ukraine urges US to sanction entities supporting Russia's Starlink rival
Ukraine has called on the United States to impose sanctions on entities supporting a Russian alternative to Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet system. Kyiv argues the Russian service helps sustain Moscow's military communications and drone operations, and wants Washington to target the companies and individuals keeping it running. The appeal highlights ongoing friction over satellite connectivity in the war.
Why now: Satellite internet has become critical battlefield infrastructure in the Ukraine war, making moves against Russia's rival system newsworthy.
