United introduces 'basic' fare for its first-class cabins
United Airlines has introduced a new 'basic' fare option for its first-class cabins, offering a cheaper way to fly in the premium cabin with fewer perks. Details on what the fare includes or excludes were not immediately available. It marks a notable shift for the carrier, which is extending the unbundled pricing model long used in economy to its most premium seats.
Why now: A major US airline extending basic economy-style unbundled pricing to first class is a notable and debated change in air travel pricing.
