Report finds Catholic clergy abused nearly 1,000 Massachusetts children
Original: Catholic clergy sexually abused nearly 1,000 Massachusetts children over decades, report finds https://www.theguardian.c
A new report concludes that Catholic clergy sexually abused close to 1,000 children in Massachusetts over several decades. The findings mark one of the most comprehensive accountings of clerical abuse in the state, which was at the centre of the scandal exposed by the Boston Globe in 2002. Advocates say the report underscores the need for accountability, while the Church faces renewed pressure over its handling of abuse cases.
Why now: The scale of documented abuse in the epicentre of the original Catholic Church abuse scandal makes the findings newsworthy.
