Freckle Phone pitches itself as a kid's first phone
Original: This colorful gadget might be the first phone for free-range kids, but I'm still not sure the Freckle Phone can overcome the AI gadget curse
The Freckle Phone, a colorful new device aimed at children, is being pitched as a first phone for 'free-range kids' — children given more independence by their parents. Early commentary is cautious: reviewers question whether it can avoid the fate of other AI-driven gadgets that have launched to fanfare and then struggled, with the device's heavy AI positioning seen as a risk despite its kid-friendly appeal.
Why now: The gadget's launch is drawing attention because it promises a screen-light first phone for kids while raising doubts about whether AI gadgets can succeed.
