Vladimir Putin declared that Russia cannot go around the world begging for handouts with an outstretched hand, calling it humiliating and saying no one would give Russia anything anyway. He argued Russia does not need aid because its financial system and economy are doing well. The remarks come as Western sanctions continue to pressure the Russian economy, and critics note the statement contrasts with Russia's wartime economic strains.

Why now: The defiant economic remarks are being highlighted amid ongoing sanctions and debate over Russia's wartime economic health.
