Hundreds of Israelis storm Al-Aqsa Mosque compound
Hundreds of Israelis entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem, according to Al Jazeera, in an incursion at one of Islam's holiest sites. Such entries by Jewish visitors and settlers, escorted by Israeli police, regularly draw condemnation from Palestinians, Jordan and Muslim-majority states, and often trigger tensions across the occupied West Bank and the region.
Why now: The storming of one of Islam's holiest sites carries high potential for regional escalation and immediate condemnation.
