Italy extends Schengen border suspension with Spain to mid-October

Original: ITALY PROLONGS UNTIL MID-OCTOBER SUSPENSION OF EU'S SCHENGEN FREE BORDER AGREEMENT WITH SPAIN - STATEMENT

Italy has announced it will prolong the suspension of the EU's Schengen free-movement agreement with Spain until mid-October, according to a statement. The move means border controls between the two countries will remain in place for several more weeks, limiting visa-free travel. The reason for the extension has not been detailed in the headline.

Why now: Border control decisions within the EU's Schengen area affect travel and draw attention when extended between member states.
