Russia launched a major attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, forcing emergency power cuts across the country as cold weather sets in. Ukrainian officials say the strikes targeted power plants and grid facilities, leaving households facing scheduled blackouts. The assault continues Russia's pattern of winter campaigns against Ukrainian energy systems, aimed at degrading civilian morale and heating capacity during the coldest months.
Why now: A fresh wave of strikes on Ukraine's power infrastructure comes just as winter begins, raising concerns about civilian hardship.
