UK and France scrap deal on Channel migrant crossings

Original: UK-France deal aimed at reducing number of migrants crossing Channel in small boats is scrapped

The UK and France have scrapped an agreement intended to reduce the number of migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats. The deal was part of efforts to tackle one of the most politically charged migration issues in Britain. No detailed explanation for the cancellation has been reported, and it remains unclear what arrangements will replace it or how crossings will be addressed.

Why now: The collapse of a key bilateral migration agreement has immediate implications for the Channel crossings debate.
