National autism scheme launches to confusion and criticism
Original: ndis
Australia's new national autism support scheme, connected to the NDIS, has launched, but families and advocates say the rollout is chaotic. Reports describe families left in limbo as Queensland has not joined the program, and an autism advocate criticised it as mostly a phone line so far. Separately, concerns are being raised that NDIS participants' consumer choice is being eroded.
Why now: The scheme's troubled launch and Queensland's absence are prompting fresh scrutiny of disability support in Australia.
