Canada and the United States women's hockey teams will wear generic, no-frills jerseys limited to their country names at the upcoming World Championship, amid an ongoing dispute with the International Ice Hockey Federation. The unusual move strips the traditional maple leaf and stars-and-stripes branding from two of the sport's flagship programs, highlighting tensions between the federations and the IIHF over jersey rights and governance.

Why now: The rare step of two national teams dropping their iconic branding over a federation dispute is striking to sports fans.
