Xavier Becerra wins California governor's race

Original: xavier becerra

Democrat Xavier Becerra has won the California governor's race, defeating Republican Steve Hilton and becoming the state's first Latino elected governor. His victory came alongside reported Democratic wins in the House and Senate, which outlets are framing as a national repudiation of Trump. Hilton, a former UK political aide turned US commentator, conceded defeat as California kept the governorship in Democratic hands.

Why now: Becerra's historic win as California's first Latino elected governor, in an election night with major national consequences, is driving attention.
