US rebuffs Haiti gang leader's UN mediation request
Original: π’ Diplomacy | 5/10 πΊπΈ ππΉ US response to Mawozo gang leader's request for UN mediation U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mike Wal
US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz responded to a request by Wilson Joseph, leader of Haiti's Mawozo gang, who sought UN mediation, urging gang leaders to stop ambushing rather than engage with their proposal. The exchange highlights Washington's hard line toward the armed groups driving violence in Haiti.
Why now: A gang leader's unusual direct appeal to the UN and the American envoy's public rejection are drawing attention amid Haiti's crisis.
