Landline switchover could cut people off in emergencies
Original: Landline switchover could cut people off in emergency, minister warned
A minister has been warned that the UK's switch from copper landlines to digital phone services could leave some people unable to call emergency services. Concerns centre on older and vulnerable customers whose handsets or backup power may fail during outages, raising safety risks as the rollout continues across the country.
Why now: Ongoing UK landline network migration has raised fears about vulnerable people losing access to 999 calls.
