UK and European peacekeepers in Ukraine could fire back at Russians
Original: UK and European peacekeepers in # Ukraine would be allowed to fire back at russians 🖊️ Dan Sabbagh Western officials say
Western officials say a possible Anglo-French peacekeeping force in Ukraine would be permitted to return fire if attacked by Russian forces. Plans reported by the Guardian's Dan Sabbagh also indicate the force would avoid reliance on US systems or technology such as Starlink, underlining European efforts to operate independently of American support in any post-ceasefire deployment.
Why now: New reporting on the rules of engagement for a European peacekeeping force touches on sensitive questions about Western involvement in Ukraine and independence from the US.
