Finland and Norway open direct talks with Putin despite criticism
Original: Finland and Norway open direct talks with Putin despite criticism | DW News
Finland and Norway have opened direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a move that has drawn criticism at home and abroad. The contacts mark a notable shift for the two Nordic countries, both NATO members with traditionally hardline stances toward Moscow, and are being closely watched for signs of a wider thaw in Europe's dealings with Russia.
Why now: Direct engagement with Putin by two NATO members challenges the prevailing Western stance of isolating Russia, sparking debate.
