Highly intelligent spiders may dream like us
New research suggests jumping spiders, known for their unusual intelligence, may experience sleep states resembling dreaming, including rapid eye movements during rest. The findings have drawn interest from scientists and the public because dreaming has rarely been considered possible in such small invertebrates, raising questions about how widespread dream-like sleep might be across the animal kingdom.
Why now: Fresh research on dream-like sleep in spiders challenges assumptions about which animals can dream.
