Jumping spiders sleep and may dream, researchers suggest
Original: OMG!! As if they weren't cute enough, jumping spiders sleep... and might dream too! And this for those still think only
Jumping spiders appear to sleep and possibly even dream, according to findings suggesting the tiny arachnids have more sophisticated brains than previously assumed. The research points to sleep-like states similar to REM sleep in vertebrates. People online are sharing the study widely, charmed by the spiders and arguing it strengthens the case that even non-fluffy animals deserve protection and more scientific attention.
Why now: The idea that tiny spiders might sleep and dream is surprising and cute, making the new research highly shareable.
