Simulation shows how massive galaxy clusters form through triple merger
Original: Simulated formation of a 2e15 solar masses cluster of galaxies via a triple merger, in an ENZO-MHD simulation analysed w
A new simulation visualises the formation of a galaxy cluster with a mass of roughly two quadrillion solar masses, produced by the merger of three smaller clusters. The ENZO-MHD simulation, analysed with the Julia programming language, maps the average density of baryonic matter along the line of sight across a cubic region of 15 cubic megaparsecs. Astronomers and space enthusiasts are sharing the visualisation as a striking look at cosmic structure formation.
Why now: The striking visualisation of an extremely massive cluster forming is being shared within the astronomy community.
