Jacobin Argues Captain Picard and Patrick Stewart Were Socialists
Original: Captain Picard Was a Socialist, and So Was Patrick Stewart https:// fed.brid.gy/r/https://jacobin. com/2026/11/patrick-s
The socialist magazine Jacobin has published a piece arguing that Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the commander Patrick Stewart played in Star Trek: The Next Generation, embodied socialist values, and that Stewart himself shares those politics. The article links the show's depiction of a post-scarcity, moneyless federation to socialist ideas. The claim is drawing attention among science fiction fans and left-wing readers debating whether Star Trek's utopia reflects socialist ideals.
Why now: The provocative framing of a beloved TV captain as a socialist is sparking debate among fans and political readers.
