PostHog is moving its data warehouse off DuckDB
Original: Moving our warehouse off DuckDB
PostHog says it is migrating its data warehouse away from DuckDB, a popular open-source analytical database. The engineering write-up covers the reasons behind the switch and what the team is moving to. The decision is drawing debate among developers about whether DuckDB is ready for production-scale warehouse workloads, or whether PostHog's needs simply outgrew a database built for embedded analytics.
Why now: DuckDB is widely adopted by developers, so a well-known company publicly abandoning it for a core workload sparks technical debate.
