ProSieben and Sat.1 to scrap teletext service

Original: teletext

German broadcasters including ProSieben, Sat.1 and Kabel Eins are discontinuing teletext, the decades-old text-based information service on TV. ProSiebenSat.1 Media says the move reflects falling usage as viewers get news and schedules online instead. For viewers, familiar features like programme listings, news tickers and lottery numbers will disappear from the affected channels, with regional papers noting the end of a television institution many older audiences still rely on.

Why now: ProSiebenSat.1 has just announced it is switching off teletext on its channels, ending a long-running service for German TV viewers.
