DOGE cuts strip $470 million in climate funding from tribes
Original: Every fraction of a degree matters. 🔥 DOGE cuts cost tribes $470M, gutting funding for climate projects https:// grist.o
Reporting by Grist details how cuts carried out under the Department of Government Efficiency have cost Native American tribes roughly $470 million, stripping funding from tribal climate resilience and environmental projects. The report argues the losses will make it harder for Indigenous communities already facing acute climate impacts to adapt, and advocates stress that even small temperature increases carry heavy consequences for these communities.
Why now: Fresh reporting quantifies the scale of federal cost-cutting damage to tribal climate programs, sparking debate over environmental justice.
