Latvia takes over UN Security Council presidency with Ukraine top of agenda
Original: Latvia takes over UN Security Council presidency putting Ukraine at top of agenda
Latvia has assumed the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council, placing Ukraine at the top of its agenda for the month. As a Baltic state bordering Russia, Latvia has been one of Kyiv's strongest supporters, and its term is expected to keep Russian aggression and continued military aid to Ukraine prominent in Council discussions.
Why now: Latvia's presidency is drawing attention because it signals continued Western and Baltic focus on the war in Ukraine at the UN's most powerful body.
