Russia's Emergency Ministry says a massive cyberattack targeted its official public alert application, disrupting its ability to issue emergency notifications. The announcement came hours after Ukraine's Air Alert app was compromised and sent false radiation and nuclear warnings to users. The two incidents, within hours of each other, are being described as a sign of intensifying cyber warfare between the two countries, raising concerns about the reliability of civil-defence alert systems during the conflict.
Why now: Both sides' emergency alert systems were hit within hours, fuelling talk of an escalating cyber war between Russia and Ukraine.
