AI-Powered Laser System Targets Mosquitoes Mid-Flight
Original: A Powerful Mosquito-Hunting Laser Uses A.I. to Zap Winged Pests
A Chinese start-up has unveiled a mosquito-hunting laser that uses artificial intelligence and sensors adapted from self-driving cars to detect, track and destroy flying mosquitoes. The company says the system can distinguish tiny airborne pests from people, pets and reflective surfaces, zapping only the insects. The technology is drawing attention as a novel fusion of autonomous-vehicle hardware and pest control.
Why now: The novel use of self-driving car sensor technology to automatically shoot down mosquitoes is capturing people's imagination.
