China details two-launch plan for crewed Moon landing
Original: 'Two launches, lunar orbit rendezvous': China unveils detailed plan for manned moon landing
China has released a detailed plan for its first crewed Moon landing, using two launches and a lunar orbit rendezvous. One rocket would carry the lunar lander and another the crewed spacecraft, which would dock in lunar orbit before astronauts descend to the surface. The announcement underscores China's ambition to put taikonauts on the Moon by 2030, competing with NASA's Artemis programme.
Why now: China's reveal of a concrete crewed lunar mission architecture fuels fresh discussion of the new US-China space race.
