Distributed Proofreaders, the volunteer project that digitizes and proofreads public domain books for Project Gutenberg, is being shared and discussed on tech forums. The site lets volunteers split scanned books into pages and proofread them collaboratively, helping preserve older works as free ebooks. Observers note it remains a long-running example of large-scale crowdsourced volunteer work on the internet.
Why now: A tech community link submission renewed interest in the long-running volunteer digitization project.
