Common Desktop Environment released as open-source project

Original: Common Desktop Environment available now as open-source

The Common Desktop Environment, the Unix desktop interface once developed for commercial Unix workstations in the 1990s, is now available as open-source software. The project hosts its code on SourceForge, letting users download, modify, and build the vintage desktop environment themselves. Developers and computing historians are revisiting the release with nostalgia for the classic workspace interface.

Why now: The release lets nostalgic developers and Unix enthusiasts revisit and extend a landmark 1990s desktop system.
