Russian military personnel have been seizing food supplies that Ukrainian forces dropped for residents of Oleshky, in occupied Kherson region. Reports say locals risk punishment even for possessing food products not manufactured in Russia. The city, flooded after the 2023 Kakhovka dam collapse, has faced severe shortages, and Ukraine has periodically airdropped aid to residents left without adequate supplies under Russian occupation.

Why now: The reported confiscation of humanitarian aid from civilians highlights the dire conditions in occupied Oleshky and tensions over the city.
