Bolt Graphics says its first Zeus GPU has been successfully powered on after a test run, a key milestone for the startup's simulation-focused processor. The company has been developing the chip for some time as a challenger in high-performance rendering and simulation workloads, and observers are watching whether it can deliver on its ambitious performance claims.

Why now: The silicon reaching a working power-on milestone is notable progress for a little-known startup taking on established GPU makers.
