Trump Weighs Year-Long H-1B Visa Freeze Amid Tech Layoffs
Original: No New H-1B After a Year? Trump's Immigration Crackdown Amid Layoff Storm Explained | Spotlight
The Trump administration is reportedly considering a crackdown that would block new H-1B skilled-worker visas for up to a year, coming as US tech companies carry out widespread layoffs. The proposal would affect thousands of foreign professionals, many of them Indian workers in the technology sector, and has drawn attention from immigration advocates, employers and critics of the visa programme.
Why now: Reports of a possible year-long halt to new H-1B visas are circulating at the same time as a wave of tech industry layoffs, raising concerns for foreign workers.
