Scientists say they are 'completely stunned' after discovering a new species of spider in the Mauritian islands, describing the find as like uncovering 'hidden treasure'. The team from Jersey's Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust was working with local partners when they made the discovery. Conservationists say the find highlights how much unknown biodiversity may still survive in the islands' remaining habitats.
Why now: A newly discovered species in a well-studied island group is rare and exciting news for conservation and wildlife watchers.
