Scientists Discover Mysterious Sleep State in Spiders
Original: Do Spiders Dream? Scientists Discover a Mysterious Sleep State
Researchers report that spiders enter a previously unknown sleep-like state, raising the question of whether the arachnids may experience something like dreaming. The finding, highlighted in coverage by SciTechDaily, suggests REM-like activity in jumping spiders and opens a new window into how sleep evolved across the animal kingdom. Scientists say further study is needed to confirm what the state means.
Why now: New research suggesting spiders may have a dream-like sleep state is capturing attention for what it implies about animal consciousness.
