Reports say the US HIMARS rocket system has gained the ability to retarget its GMLRS rockets while they are already in flight, an upgrade developed under Pentagon programmes. The news is being shared with ironic commentary in French-speaking defence circles, joking that the missiles now change direction faster than the generals who command them, and fuelling debate over what in-flight retargeting means for precision strikes.
Why now: News of a mid-flight retargeting capability for HIMARS is new and striking, prompting both defence interest and sarcastic commentary.
