Trump reportedly backs Bukele plan to deploy troops to Haiti
Original: Trump gives El Salvador’s Bukele green light for Haiti military deployment: Report
US President Donald Trump has reportedly given El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele the green light for a Salvadoran military deployment to Haiti, according to a report by Anadolu Agency. The move would place Salvadoran forces in the crisis-hit Caribbean nation, where gang violence has persisted despite an existing international security mission. Details of the deployment's scope and timing were not immediately clear.
Why now: A reported US endorsement of El Salvador deploying troops to gang-stricken Haiti is a significant new development in the international response to Haiti's security crisis.
