Oman's Maritime Security Centre says 25 crew members of a Panama-flagged commercial vessel were evacuated after the ship was targeted and caught fire about 1.6 nautical miles off the coast of Musandam. The announcement came shortly after Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed a large oil tanker exploded after striking a naval vessel, stoking fears of escalating attacks on shipping in the strategic Strait of Hormuz region.

Why now: Reports of a targeted attack on a commercial ship near the Strait of Hormuz raise fears of widening maritime conflict involving Iran.
